چکیده

The phaseout ofhydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC)-22 will require manufacturers of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment to find suitable alternatives for this widely-used refrigerant. The R-22 Alternative Refrigerants Evaluation Program (AREP) was established by the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) to assist manufacturers in obtaining performance data on a multitude of R-22 and R-502 alternatives. One step in AREP is the testing of standard systems, modified for use with a given alternative refrigerant. Results from these "soft-optimized"_ system tests are summarized and evaluated for two compositions each of two different refrigerant blends. Various techniques were employed to "soft-optimize" systems, with varying efficacy. No single alternative appears as a universal replacement for R-22. Furthermore, it is noted that the AREP tests represent only a first step in manufacturers' efforts to bring next-generation equipment to the marketplace.

Performance of Alternative Refrigerants in Heat Pumps and Air Conditioners

In this paper the results of both modeling and testing a representative 3-ton air-to-air heat pump running with the baseline refrigerant (HCFC-22) and zero ODP alternative refrigerants will be presented. Alternative refrigerant simulation runs are made with two pure fluids (HFC-134a and HFC-152a) and an azeotropicmixture (60/40wt%) ofHFC-32 and HFC125 (Allied-Signal Inc. U.S. Patent 4,978,467)....

Optimized heat transfer correlations for pure and blended refrigerants

Refrigerant blends and pure refrigerants have wide applicability in thermal engineering. One of the critical parameters in the design and evaluation of thermal equipment is the heat transfer coefficient, which can be difficult to determine for refrigerants that undergo phase change within the equipment. For pure refrigerants, classical experimental relations developed by Gungor and Winterton (G...

Performance of R410A and R22 Low GWP Alternative Refrigerants at Elevated Ambient Temperatures

Growing concerns about the global warming impact of refrigerants used in HVAC&R equipment are driving development and evaluation of alternative refrigerants with lower global warming potentials (GWPs). The Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) recently coordinated the Low-GWP Alternative Refrigerant Evaluation Program (AREP) in which commercial, university, and governmen...

Refrigeration Lubricant Based on Polyolester for Use With HFCs and Prospect of its Application With R-22 (Part 2) Hydrolytic Stability and Compressor Endurance Test Results

Application ofHFC refrigerants for air conditioners and refrigerators has been studied. Development of a common oil, based on a combination ofpolyolester and additive packages, is aimed for R-22 and HFCs refrigerants, and the evaluation tests of reliability in compressor and refrigeration system brought about good results. This refrigeration lubricant is already partly commercialized in HFC ref...

AHRI Low Global Warming Potential Alternative Refrigerants Evaluation Program (Low-GWP AREP) â•fi Summary of Phase I Testing Results

The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) recently completed the first phase of its low global warming potential alternative refrigerants evaluation program (Low-GWP AREP). This industry-wide cooperative research program identified and evaluated promising alternative refrigerants’ performance over the past two years. Thirty-eight low-GWP refrigerants were tested during t...
